Established in 1966 with the purchase of our first Great Dane bitch, Asta.
Von Hapsburg Danes has recently moved to a suburb of Vancouver; sunny "Tsawasseen", an aboriginal name which means "Looking Toward the Sea ", in Coast Salish.
Family and business commitments intervened for many years and showing and breeding Danes
were put on hold, although our home was never without a Dane or two.
During those intervening years I became interested in nutrition and how it affected our Danes and
this led to a full time passion to better our breed incorporating vitamins and supplements, natural
feeding and later a fresh raw diet and holistic therapies.
All our Danes are raised in our home and very much a part of our family.
For the past 16 years we have been feeding a fresh raw diet, or BARF as it is known (Bones
and Raw Food). This diet is based on Dr. Ian Billinghurst's book, Give Your Dog A Bone.
Our Danes and puppies have enjoyed supurb health and energy with very few veterinary bills.
In addition to a natural feeding protocol our Danes are not vaccinated. We believe in NATURAL IMMUNITY, which is built up with a raw diet, immune building supplements and holistic
husbandry.
We are committed to increasing health and longevity in this wonderful breed, who have shared our
home for the past 43 years.
